Welcome to Newhurst
Energy Recovery Facility

Operated by Encyclis

Newhurst Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) near Shepshed, Leicestershire, provides sustainable treatment capacity for up to 455,000 tonnes of residual waste per year, generating up to 40 megawatts of energy – which is enough to power around 80,000 homes.

The facility began full operations in June 2023 after three years of construction and commissioning

What is Energy-from-Waste?

Recovering resources to support the circular economy

Energy-from-Waste is the process of generating energy in the form of electricity and/or steam from the combustion of non-recyclable residual waste.

We support the circular economy by recovering resources from household and commercial waste that remains after recycling. Modern facilities like ours generate baseload electricity and create hot water for district heat networks, as well as supplying ash that can be turned into building materials and enabling extraction of ferrous and non-ferrous metals for reuse.
